How to Get Rid of Toenail FungusHow to Get rid of Toenail Fungus

In this article, we will explain in detail how to get rid of toenail fungus. Toenail fungus is medically named onychomycosis. They cause an unpleasant aspect giving a yellowish color in toenails. It is more frequent that they appear in the feet than in the hands because the closed and humid environment the feet are exposed tends to generate microorganisms growth.

How to get rid of toenail fungus.  One of the most common causes is lack of hygiene, which creates a warm and humid environment ideal for bacteria proliferation. Most common symptoms are thick, brittle and discolored or yellowish toenails. The big toenail is the most prone toenail to this condition.

Even though there are a variety of pharmaceutical treatments you may use, some people have encountered much better -and cheaper- results with homemade remedies.

Some examples are:

Oregano and olive oil

This combination is one of the best options to get rid of toenail fungus quickly. Both oils mixed will help you to regenerate every affected cell. When toenail fungus appears, this zone of the body needs to be rehydrated and these oils will help you to recover that texture.

You have to mix a teaspoon of olive oil with three drops of oregano oil in a recipient until you get a completely homogeneous liquid. Before you go to sleep, apply the mix with a cotton piece over the infected toenails and on the next day rinse them. In about 2 weeks you will see definite results.

Apple vinegar

The better-known recipe is this: in a tub full of water, mix a cup of apple vinegar; after that, you will soak the affected toenails for 15 minutes. Then, you must dry well the infected area. If your skin gets irritated, reduce the amount of vinegar.

You can also try some lesser-known mixes that are as, or even more, effective. If you combine the apple vinegar with other antibacterial products, you will improve your condition much quicker.

For example, you can mix the juice of two lemons, a branch of rosemary, three garlic cloves, two glasses of water and one glass of apple vinegar.
Boil the mix for 10 minutes and once it has cooled down, apply it over the nails with a cotton piece. Repeat this daily until you have eliminated the infection.

Garlic has amazing anti-fungal properties. You can mix 5 diced or mashed garlic cloves with a liter of water and cook it until boiling point. Then, retrieve it from the fire and let it cool until the water is warm and soak your feet for around 10 minutes. Repeat daily.

Aside from its antifungal property, garlic is also a great antibacterial, and this is the basic pillar to eliminate any type of infection. Aside from the past recipe, you can try this: Mash 4 garlic cloves and mixed them with olive oil until you have a paste, apply it directly over the affected toenails for 30 minutes.

These are some basic remedies to help you. But remember: you have to take measures to prevent this from happening again. Some recommendations are: using cotton socks, comfortable shoes and avoiding humidity.
